The Augusta Canal flows from the headgates at Columbia County’s scenic Savannah Rapids Park past miles of historic and natural landscape. The wide, level towpath, once used by mules to pull canal boats to the headgates, today is a popular recreational trail for hikers, cyclists and runners. Additional trails into wooded and urban areas add variety to the outdoor experience. Canoers and kayakers can put in at several points and enjoy both the natural and urban scenery.

Across the Savannah River in neighboring South Carolina, nestled in the Long Cane Ranger District of the Sumter National Forest, FATS is the crown jewel of the CSRA trails, and for good reason. FATS has something for everyone. Very few technical features make FATS a great place to get beginners hooked on the sport, and the excellent flow, pump track like feel, and high speed sections combined with lots of mileage keeps bringing the seasoned riders back time and time again.
The 9.2-mile Keg Creek Trail easily connects with the Bartram Trail and Mistletoe State Park for even more miles of mountain bike thrills. Keg Creek is a fun ride, full of roots, dips, bridges, and creek crossings. Technical enough to keep you on your toes, but easy enough for riders still fairly new to the sport.
SORBA-CSRA is the Central Savannah River Area chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association, formed to promote trail preservation and development, riding, fun and fellowship for all mountain bicyclists in the Central Savannah River Area of South Carolina and Georgia. Visit the website for details on area trails, such as Bartram Trail, Keg Creek, Mistletoe, FATS, and the IMBA Ride Center just across river in South Carolina.
